In Outlook 2003 is it possible to set the default setting for the Reading
Pane to OFF? When I create a new folder I have to go to that folder and set
it to off...

I would prefer to have it OFF by default and only turn it on when I want
to...

thx,

Change the default Messages view by going to View-> Arrange By-> Define
Views... and turn the Reading Pane of there.

Another way to go would be to define a new own custom View with all your
settings and apply that view upon first use of that folder.

Tips of the month:
-What do the Outlook Icons Mean?
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Or go to View, Reading Pane, and choose "off"
