Reading "My Documents" folder problems

I have a computer that was disabled due to lightening (motherboard dead). I
used an IDE to USB adapter to move the contents of the old harddrive to a new
computer. I can copy all files from the root and other directories except for
the "My Documents" folder. The old computer had a user id set but it was not
password protected. I created a new account with same ID as on the other
computer but the My Documents directory and files on the old hard drive are
still read/write protected. Does anyone know how to unlock this directory so
I can get the files?

The actual user data for My Documents is under \Documents and
Settings\<user name>'s Documents\ on the old drive.

This should be visible on the old drive (via your USB-IDE interface?)
from the new computer. Just copy the files from there.
