reading documents

I have a problem with word documents I receive. I open the doucment and it
is gibberish I checked on english, but it didn't change anything. Anyone
have any idea what I am doing wrong.

The first thought that comes to my mind is that the documents have been
damaged during transmission. It does seem odd, though, that this happens with
EVERY document?

Have you tried first saving the attachment to disk, then using File/Open in
Word to open the document?

You're certain the documents were created in Word? In which version? And which
version of Word do you have?
