read software programs without install

How can you read software in cd, cdrw,dvd or floppy drive
without software automatically installing (on xp)
connected both to dial up and digital?

When install starts stop it. Open My Computer and browse to cd.
Is that what you meant?

Hold down the left shift key when inserting
the CD. Wait for all the lights on the CD drive
to stop flashing then release the key. The CD will not autorun.
