read receipt

i have a read receipt that keeps coming back to me from the persons server
whom i sent a message to. the same read receipt has come back literally
thousands of times. what would cause this? thanks for your help

You sent an e-mail that requested a read receipt.
The recipient is trying to send you the read receipt that you requested.
Is that right?

Did you try deleting all the read receipts using the webmail interface to
your mailbox? That way, you can be sure that *new* read receipts are
showing up rather than a problem in you trying to yank the message from your
mailbox.

If the read receipt shows up again in your mailbox (so it is a *new* mail),
did you tell the recipient that they are repeatedly sending their read
receipt? Could be a problem with their mail server. Could be a problem
with whatever e-mail client that they use. Until the fix the problem, all
you can do is define a rule (in the e-mail client or a server-side rule on
your mailbox using the options in the webmail interface to your mailbox) to
delete all mails from that other person.

Other than shutting them out, you can't do anything to stop them from
sending you e-mails.
