I have just install sp2 on XP and it has set all my files and folders to read

it set it back to read only. Can you some one help. Urgently.

The read only attribute only applies to people without 'ownership' of the
file. Look at some files in your profile "My Documents" folders. You can
change those as you like. Any Admin, also, can edit any file by taking
ownership.
If you want to know the technical details of ownership, read this:

Folders will always show the read-only attribute. You are mistaking the
read-only attribute as doing the same function for both folders and
files. You don't understand the attributes for folders.

Do you really have a need to remove the display of "Read only" from
folders? You never actually mentioned having a real problem (other than
perception). If Windows is working okay and you can do whatever you
want with your data files then don't go monkeying around to tweak
Windows for superfluous changes.
