eric

I am working with windows xp and am having an issue with
read only errors. I have tried going to properties menu
on the seleted folders and un clicking the read only box
however the settings do not take effect. Each time I
recheck the properties menu the read only block is greyed
out but still checked and causing errors with access 200
and other programs which acces the data from these
folders. I have searched the ms web site for an answer but
have been unable to find anything remotely close to my
issue. Please help.

Thank you

Greetings:

You need to take ownership of files and folders before the settings will
take, you may have lost ownership
due to a virus, trojan, etc. once you take ownership, read only atribute
will be no more.

Describes how to take ownership of files or folders that you may not have
permissions for if you are an administrator for that computer.

In Windows XP, you can apply special access permissions to files or
folders that are located on NTFS file system volumes. Special access
permissions are customizable sets of permissions. This article describes how
to set, view, change, or remove special permissions...

Hope this helps.

Are you running any other software that is using those
files or protecting those directory structors?

Do you have priveleges to alter the r/w status of the file?

I'd restart see if it was still the same.

Check to see what software/dlls etc.. I had running makes
sure there isnt something messing with the system

Other then this I'd backup data and reformat if its
important

Here is some basic information

at times files are being used even when they arn't for a
little while
some software locks or resets files status even if you
change it it will change it back.

as for it being greyed out?
not sure tired. if you cant get it figured out tonight you
can send me an email at (e-mail address removed) and I can at
this point look into it further
