Read only opt will not uncheck

On this XP box, all folders and subfolders on local
drives have 'read only' checked on. I can uncheck it and
click OK but upon reopening the properties of that
folder, I find the read only box checked again. I have
verified that the folders are in fact NOT read only
because I can edit files within, but this creates
problems when trying to uncheck 'read only' option of
files when coping from CD and when trying to actually
make a folder 'read only'. Permissions issue? Any input
appriciated...

Hi Ryan,

Read-Only attribute for folders are actually for different purpose. (unlike
file attributes). Windows Explorer uses the Read-Only attribute to determine
whether or not the folder is customized.
