Whenever i save a file to disk or CD, it does so as read
only. If i go to properties and uncheck the read only box
the changes aren't kept. I cannot make any alterations
therefore to saved work, is it possible to change this?
Thanks for any help

On a CD, you cannot change this. Simply copy the file back to the HDD, and
then change its attribute from Read Only. It should not be Read Only if
saving to your HDD.

The inbuilt burning is not a 'packet written' method, usually associated
with CD-RW. It just stashes up files to burn as batches in ISO
'sessions;, same as for CD-R. (see http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm).

The results cannot be updated (other than by burning a further session
with a later version to take precedence) - all you can do on a CD-RW
disk is erase the whole thing. The files are thus inherently read-only
and are marked accordingly
