read only error

Hi - I have a client who just converted from Novell to MS. They have a
fairly large network including remote users throughout the US. I am getting
some intermittent read-only error messages when they go into various
databases, some of which have linked tables. I'm thinking I need to split
the databases but because of the large number of users spread all over, it is
not possible to put frontends on each PC. Would it make sense to split the
db's and keep the frontend and backend on the server? I realize the error
may also be due to a permission issue which they are looking into. Thank
you! p.s. Of course, the sooner I can get an answer the better!! :)

The company is so large and users are so spreadout, I wouldn't know who they
are, where they are, who is new, what PC's have been replaced, etc. I know -
less than ideal. Hopefully just sharing will work ok with correct
permissions which they now seem to have.

Good luck. You'll need it!

Sharing the front-end increases the risk of database corruption
significantly.

Why not give them instructions on how to copy the front-end from the server
to their hard drive?

Hope is not a strategy.

And, no, it's not going to work.
