Read only error

when I try to open a file I get an error message:
The file cannot be accessed. The file may be read only or
in a read only location. I have accesed this filein
numerous occasions previously and have not had this error
message before.

That message can mean a corrupt file. Opening it in Excel 2002 (XP) can
usually recover the data, though often not the formatting.
