Read-Only Drvr Folder Issue

XP Home, logged on as Admin, a small applet install fails with "cannot
write to Windows Driver folder." Locateable folders are indeed flagged
Read-only; clearing this attribute & applying in Properties doesn't
change it (still checked when Properties reopened). How to clear this
folder attribute? Much TIA. ;-)

Hi,

"Read Only" on a folder is ignored by the system and is not the root of your
problem. The problem is with permissions. You cannot logon to the Admin
account in normal mode in a WinXP Home system, so you are either logged on
in Safe mode (which may prevent driver installation) or as a regular user
with insufficient privileges.

Thx Roger, was on as Admin & indeed the indication is ignored by the
sys, very helpful that you verified; turned out to be a minor issue
with the app's installation file. ;-) FWIW, this incident showed that
when XP automatically "expands" an archive(.zip) by only clicking it,
it may not unzip completely as when the "expand all files" command is
separately invoked - even though *all the archive's filenames & sizes*
may appear present & correct in Explorer, go figure.

Hi,

Yes, that's been an issue for a number of people. Thanks for the feedback.
Glad you got it fixed.
