read only changes back

I am running a small home network and one of the folders I want to save to
is read only. When i go to properties and uncheck read only and apply it
changes right back to read only. Am i missing a step or am i just doing it
wrong?
Thanks for the help,

Thanks for the help,

From the computer that has the folder...
check the properties to see if changes are allowed to be made by other users

This is completely normal. Your folders are *not* set to read only. Note
that the check mark in that box is gray, not black. Black means read-only;
gray means "Not applicable."

There's nothing wrong and nothing to fix.
