Is this work computer or Home computer?
You can use the Windows Administrator account or any admin account to remove
the password from that account, then all files in that account will be
available to be read or edit by any users on that machine.
There is a password retriever app but try the above first.

Log on as Administrator (in Safe Mode if you're running WinXP), then reset
the forgotten password.

The nordahl boot disk is not a password "retriever" but a tool to replace a
password. A password "retriever" would tell you what a forgotten password
is. The nordahl boot disk won't do this.

Woah there tiger!

Be careful. I know that the OP was rather terse, but there is a possibility
that the file is protected by the File Encryption System. If the OP has not
taken a copy of the encryption certificate, changing the password will
ensure that the file is irretrievable for ever.

Don't forget the Rainbow Tables... For passwords with alpha characters
only the table size is 500 MB or more. For a simple alpha-numeric
password you need a 3+ GB table. Using special characters like
!@#$%^&*()-_+= the table will be well over 20GB and using other
characters like ~`[]{}|\:;"'<>,.?/ will push the size of the table to
more than 60GB! Of course for the table to run efficiently you almost
need as much RAM as the size of the table itself. Pesky little details...

That true nordahl not a password retriever, I was thinking about the Nirsoft
but it was for Emails/MS..etc not a windows Account password retriever.
But the Troubleshooting method still Valid and the way to proceed for the OP!
Thanks for the correction.

What have you forgotten the password to?

The user account - log on as admin and reset user account password, or take
control of the files using security tab in file properties.

User files - are they just password protected or encrypted?
If they are just password protected you might be able to find a program to
help you around this.
If they are encrypted you will need to remember the password. I'm not sure
about this since you need the key on the disk to decrypt them.

Some other password protected thing?

Please be as specific as you can.
