Re-post of long XP Intel splash screen

The Intel inside splash screen again lasts 2+mins i/o 1 sec and
now after having all Symantec software supposedly removed I get a
warning screen on opening any piece of 16 bit software which
advises:"C:\PROGRAM~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL An installable
Virtual Device driver failed DLL initialization. Choose 'Close'
to terminate the application". I choose 'Ignore' and the
applications run OK. Other 16 bit apps run OK without further
"nag" screens. After the splash screen has disappeared booting
is as fast as ever. m/c details: XP MCE. 2Gb ram, 3GHz P4.

(1) How to fix the exhaustingly long dwelling splash screen? What
is happening during the splash screen?
(2) Must there still be some Symantec reference lurking somewhere
perhaps in the registry? If so Regseek can't find it.

With regard to the long lasting Intel "splash" screen the Pheonix
bios is set to Quick Boot enabled but I suspect that the splash
screen perhaps precedes the boot sequence?
I can't find any reference to the aforementioned .DLL file by
search, is it loading because of a registry entry?

The "Intel Inside" logo is probably a BIOS/motherboard thing - prove this to
yourself - get some bootable CD/diskette and boot to it. You can even
completely disconnect and remove the hard disk drive from the BIOS/hardware
during the test. If the "Intel Inside" logo you are having trouble with
still shows and still does the same thing - your trouble (as I suspect) has
nothing to do with the OS and everything to do wiht the hardware.
