Re-post: IE6 Downloading Problems

Posting again (and desperate for help!):

Recent problem that just started up out of the blue...

Any time I try and download any file from a website (say,
for example ie6setup.exe from microsoft.com), I get the
error:

"Internet Explorer cannot download ie6setup.exe from
download.microsoft.com.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later."

It doesn't matter what I try and download, or when I try
it. Same error every time. I tried using the Microsoft
Online Support pages to no avail. Anybody have any
ideas? I am running Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows ME.

What is the problem - running IE6 setup or downloading files.

The problem is downloading files. That error message was
the one I got when I tried to download the update, and the
whole reason I'm trying to download the update is because
I get that error when I try and download any other files.
(A real catch-22, isn't it?)
I did try the sites you listed, still with no success.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.
