re-opening projects

I regularly make movies and want to go back and make further changes later
on. However when I open my saved projects, I keep finding all my video clips
replaced with big red crosses saying that they are missing. The first time
this happened I realised it was because I had taken the clips off of the
computer and saved them to disk, but since that time I have just left them in
a folder. Why does it keep happening if the clips are still on the comupter?

I'm not sure why this is happening but
if you right click the X you can choose,
"Browse for missing file" and find them.
