I chose the option to "close personal folders" in the navigation pane. How do
I re-open personal folders in the navigation pane?

Hi
Open Outlook go to File -> Data File Management -> Select Add -> Select
Outlook Personal File (PST) --> OK -> Locate the PST file which you have
closed. --> click OK.

The closed PST file will be added to your Navigation Pane.

What is the default folder to which contacts are saved? I cannot locate a
recent pst archive folder. So where on my computer would the folder for my
contacts have been stored, by default?

Your contacts are stored in the same pst file as your e-mail messages
and calendar. You can find where your pst file is located by going to
Tools - Account Settings - Data Files.

Once you have opened the pst file, the Contacts folder can be seem in
the Navigation Pane in the Contacts folder (the icon doesn't actually
look like a folder, however).
