We recently had our computer stolen. All important files have been backed up.
Our new computer runs Windows XP Pro Version 5.1. The new computer has two
hard drives one we use for programs and the other for data. When I create a
folder in the data file and reinstate the copied files I am finding that all
the folders are automatically read only. The is no tick to uncheck but rather
a shaded box which will not uncheck. One of the files to be re-instated is a
MS Money files that will not open Read only files. Because it will not open I
cannot get access to this data, even to save under another name.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Many thanks

CD and DVD files are always Read Only. Open a folder, press Ctrl/A to
select all files, right-click one file, click Properties, deselect the
Read Only box. That should turn the Read Only attribute off for all the
selected files. Ignore the folders' Read Only attribute.
