re-installng XP Professonal

I had a problem with my XP system and decided to re-
install the os (foolish!). I got half way through the
install and at 34 mins to the end, while XP was
installing the drivers, the system hung, and gave me a
black screen. It then rebooted itself, picked up that it
was installing, attampted to continue (saying there were
39 mins left), got to 34 mins left, tried to install the
drivers and went throught he same procedure again and
again. I switched the system off and tried to start from
scratch, but it started doing exactly the same thing
again. How can I force the system to start over?

Remove everything but the keyboard, mouse and video, reboot with the XP CD
and hope for the best. When XP setup completes to the activation wndow, do
not activate at this time. Reinstall all your hardware one component at a
time and only after all the hardware is installed [or 30 days approches] do
you activate your XP license.
