If I want to to insatll my xp-pro on my computer, due to
a harddrive crash, can I use my old code to register the
software and if I cant' how do I obtain a new product
code.?

Not sure what you mean by OLD CODE, however if you use the
supplied
install key, no matter the age, it should work, it's
usually located on an orange sticker on the cd.
if it's been longer than 90 days since the original install
you should have no problems.

First, the CD Key sticker is not on the CD. It may be on back of the XP
cardboard folder (retail) or on a COA sticker somewhere on the PC/XP Readme
manual (OEM).

Second, it is not 90 days since the original install but 120 days since last
activation. The Internet activiation requests "seem" to be kept for 120
days and then get "removed" from the request queue. You can always phone
Microsoft's activation phone number and request the activation that way.

As long as you still have a valid CD Key and install media, you can always
re-install your XP. However, if you have an OEM version and you change the
PC/motherbaord, you can not re-use the CD Key. OEM versions are tied down
to the first motherbaord/PC that they are installed on (as per Microsoft's
End User License Agreement - EULA for OEM software).

Depending how long the original was last on your machine, try going to the
Magical Jelly Bean site, and download the Magical Jelly Bean key finder,
file kf1563. If its still in your register, the key finder may pick it up
and give you the product key. It also wikk give the key for Office XP pro.
It is worth a shot. The key for Xp is kept in your registry. It may not help
to try the key finder, but it can't hurt.

You use the same one. You can install as often as you like on
'Substantially the same' hardware - see www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm
Changing a HD is not going to make it seem different unless you have
made several other changes. See the hint in 'Format Hard drive' and
make a note of the current Volume Serial Number so as to restore it and
conserve that life if the drive *does* crash
