Several months ago my XPpro refused to boot up. I had the latest updates and
latest antivirus updates.

I thought it was a hardware problem. Diagnostics found nothing. I installed
Linux which runs well indicating that there is no rare random hardware
glitch.

When I reinstall XP-pro, what kind of problems will I face to have it
reactivated?

I did remove an internal modem and put it into another PC, I got an external
modem for the
PC I want to re-install on.

You should not have a problem re-activating.
In the worst case, you can call Microsoft and they will give you an
activation code.

Hi,

Probably little or no problems at all. A modem change by itself is not
enough to trigger a problem, and if it's been more than 120 days since the
original activation, it will be treated as a new one anyways.

None. If you start with a freshly formatted disk and install, the
activation will go through again just as before, as it is the same (or
substantially the same) hardware - see www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm. A
modem does not come into it
