I think I have a virus or spyware on my computer, it works
very slowly, freezes, etc. So, I want to re-install my
Windows XP Home Edition. Will I have any trouble doing
it, since I already registered it once?
No problem.
But before being so drastic, make sure you have your Virus software up
to date, and run it, then get AdAware from xxx.lavasoftusa.com and run
that.
If you *do* format and reinstall on the same (or 'substantially the
same') hardware you just get on the net sometime in the first 30 days
(don't leave it too long) and then run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
to activate on the net just like the fist time. Don't bother with
'registration' - that is entirely voluntary anyway. See more at
www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm
One thing though - before getting on the net *at all* make sure that you
have the Firewall activated. This is I think offered when you set up a
dial up connection, but make sure it is checked when you then go to
Network Connections - right click the connection, Properties - Advanced
page and make sure the top box is checked.
