I am working with Microsoft Tech Support concerning a problem in which the
Windows Writing Engine is not functioning. I have been asked , as part of
the correction process to set my CD-ROM as the first priority Boot Device.
Can someone tell me how to do this?

You need to enter the BIOS. Entering the BIOS is usually done by
pressing DEL or F2 at the beginning of boot where you see the POST. There
are other keys and even combinations of keys on some machines. Many do not
see the POST which is hidden by the manufacturers logo which shows on boot.
The best way if you do not see the POST at boot, and DEL or F2 do not work,
is to check the manufacturers support site for documentation on your
specific machine for information on entering the BIOS, also know and shown
on screen as Setup.

You can also mention the machine make/model here which should get you the
info.

Bernie,
Depending on your pc (mine is a Dell), When you first turn your pc on
continuously hit either F1 or F2 to reach SETUP mode. Once there select BOOT
SEQUENCE and choose CD. Hit ENTER and F10 to save it. Since your floppy is
the default first boot device, this change forces your CD_ROM to boot first.
Hope that helps you.

Brian,

Speaking of the POST, how do you get rid of that? I really need my BIOS ID
and its in the POST, which is hidden.

Thanks
