Re-Installing Windows XP

Hello,

I have an OEM Windows XP Home installed on my hard drive. It has been
running for about a year now and is getting bogged down with programs and is
generally slowing down.

I would like to format my hard drive and conduct a fresh install of my OEM
Windows XP Home edition.

I have backed up my files onto a second slave hard drive. What should be my
next step if I insert my Win XP install disk. Will it give me the option to
format and perform a fresh install of Windows XP Home?

Then, how will it work with the product activation? I am installing on the
same hard drive so I presume that it will use the same activation key that
Microsoft have centrally?

If someone could guide me through the fresh install and product activation
it would be appreciated.

Thanks and kind regards

Hi Ricky,

Thanks for your reply. I did have a look at this website but it didnt seem
to address my specific question on product acitvation.

It does seem now that I should have an option for fresh install where I can
format the hard drive when I go though the XP install.

You'll activate Windows XP in the same manner as you
did originally, usually via the internet. If that option fails,
then select the option to "activate by phone" to obtain a
new, and free, activation code.
