re-installing usb printer

I had the printer installed through the parallel
connection, but I now have to connect using the usb port.
When I connect the printer it says new usb device and then
says that it is unknown device and won't work. Under the
printer ports (when installing a printer manually) it does
not give me an option to use a usb connection. The
printer is a HP 840C.

Disconnect the USB cable. Remove the printer driver using Control Panel
Printers and Faxes Highlight printer. Delete this printer.
