Re-installed GeForce Driver - then reboot stops

A few weeks ago SP2 killed my computer, so I had to reinstall XP. I thought
I installed all of my drivers, but when I tried to watch a DVD, it wouldn't
work.
So, I reintstalled a few more, and the last one was the nVidia 64 MB DDR
nVidia GeForce4 MX Rev:A01-00. I think my computer had already installed a
greater GeForce from the Windows Update site, and the GeForce4 MX needed to
remove it and install over it.

So... it removed the other GeForce, and when my computer restarted, the Dell
screen and boot screen show, but then nothing happens. Thankfully I'm able
to get into SafeMode networking!

Anyone know what I should do to defeat this Windows mishap?

Thanks!!

Hi,

Just answered you without reading this.

Just a note, it is not wise to install drivers from Windows update. If the
option is still avialable and applies, do a roll back via the Device
Manager.

What exactly do you mean by this:
when my computer restarted, the Dell
screen and boot screen show, but then nothing happens.

You need to uninstall nvidea drivers, using Add/Remove prior to any update.
Do NOT use winudate for the drivers, use hw manu.site only.

I'll be damned!!! I don't have a clue what caused the problem, but I
restarted my computer in "Last good configuration mode," and it said it
couldn't restart because ntoskrnl.exe couldn't be found.

So, I went back into Safe Mode, and downloaded one from ThemeXP.org. I went
to the System/32 folder, and the original ntoskrnl.exe was there, but I don't
know if it's corrupt or what. Anyway, I pasted the downloaded version, and
now my computer's working properly again!!

Okay, SP2 killed my computer, then this problem last night... what is karma
doing to me!?

Well, that was all I knew at the beginning! I guess you can say I was lucky
I restarted in the "last successful config" mode. :)
