re-install xp

I have to clear my HD, reformat and re load my software.
I recall when I first installed xp that I need to get a
key from microsoft or some authorization n order to
reload xp.
What is this and where do I go to get it done.

Simply reinstall as planned.

Attempt internet activation.
If that fails, choose the option to activate by phone.
