Re-install Word 2002 troubles...

Pam M.

We continunally received a "not responding" message while working in word
2002, ultimately resulting in only being able to save using automatic
back-ups after shutting down.

We uninstalled word 2002 and then thought we would reinstall from the
original disk, a single disk from a microsoft works 2006 suite. Note, this
disk from suite includes the set-up for works and word 2002, only.

Although the installation disk goes through the motions and says that word
2002 is installed, word 2002 does not appear on the list of programs and
attempting to open a word document is not possible using word.

Any thoughts?

Re-installing, even had it been 100% successful would not have fixed the
problem.
I suspect that the Word installation was completed, but has not placed the
shortcut. That is not such a catastrophe. Create a shortcut to the file
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\winword.exe.
As for the crashing - see
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm. Attend to this
before attempting to restart Word from the shortcut.

Then see http://www.gmayor.com/Document_Not_Found.htm

I can not create a shortcut for a program that the computer does not list as
being present. Is this not correct? I have nothing to "find" or "locate" in
proceeding to a shortcut. The word software does not appear to be on the
computer.

Graham - correct me if I am wrong, but the links you sent me to all reference
attending to items within the word program, no? I can not longer access the
word 2002 program/software which I believe I installed (but can not locate).

At this point, would you suggest uninstalling the complete works 2006 suite
and reinstalling? Coule there be a needed item that the set-up/word disk
might be needing?

If Word is installed, then a search of the entire computer for winword.exe
will find it. Make sure the search includes "Hidden and system files and
folders."

Does the folder I indicated exist?
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\
Does it contain the file winword.exe?
I don't understand your reference to the word 'software'. What you should be
looking for is winword.exe!

If you installed it, it will be in the folder I indicated and you can create
a shortcut to it.
