Re-install missing files

Windows XP SP2
Windows Media Player 10
Internet connection Verizon DSL

Problem: When I try to access a radio station in Windows media player 10 I
keep getting the message "Reconnecting attempt x". This occurs when I select
WMP Fast. Selecting Slow works ok.

I recently removed files from the registry to clean out all traces of
Norton/Symantec entries and removed all files relating to same. Prior to
this activity the problem did not exist. Also, I was running WMP 9. I
downloaded WMP 10 in the hopes that this would solve the problem. It did not.
I used restore the system to a prior state, ( I created a restore point prior
to working on the Registry). This did not help. Registry repair software
indicates many paths to missing files. How can I re-install the missing
files? I tried using [somthing] scannow. (Don't remember the somthing
letters.) This gave the error "cannot find scannow".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried this as I wrote in my initial post. I received an error "cannot find
