Re-install IE6?

Hello,
I have a WinXP Pro computer. At some point, my IE went flaky... When I
click on a link in a news post, or on a web site, it might open, or not. IE
opens a new window, but seems to hang trying to open the link. (I think
this has affected Windows Update, as well; I've been having trouble with
that.)

Any suggestions on how to restore IE 6 to its former sparkling self?
