re-install from scratch - licence issues

I have just cobbled together a new machine from the remnants of my old one.
It is a new box with all the old components except a MB, Processor and
primary sata drive. I was having problems with the old machine which I
suspect was the MB breaking down. I re-installed WinXP Home Edition from
scratch several times, thus using up my anti-pirate allocation.

When I installed on my new machine, it wouldn't register and I obtained a
new number from Microsoft which worked fine. I have new problems with this
install, mostly due to the duff drivers and other s/w from Nvidea.

I am going to do a new complete re-format and install but, first one
question. Do I use the old licence number or the new one from MS and does
this count towards my anti-pirate quota.

If all else fails I think I will install my copy of Windows 2000. At least
that behaved itself.

Many thanks.

Use the original code. If 120 days has passed since you last
successfully used the original code then it will likely go though
without having to call. If necessary do a phone activation again.

"anti-pirate quota"
Only exists in your mind - you tell us.

If Microsoft saw fit to give you a new number - I would use it.
Although - you could try either and whichever one activates is "good-to-go".
If it has been less than 120 days since you activated, you MAY have to make
a phone call in order to activate your copy.
