Perfect solution no reboot required however not a bad idea.

Actual steps taken on a Win2000 Server sp3

1) Get to C:\ command prompt
2) cd to c:\winnt\system32
3) typed "rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection AutoUpdate 132
c:\winnt\inf\au.inf" without any carriage return or quotations
4) Prompted for Win2ksp3 CD, used Browse button instead to change
directory to c:\winnt\servicepackfiles\i386 where a specific file was
needed (forgot to capture name of file, sorry).
5) Went to services to see if Automatic Update was dispalying...and it
was
