I've been trying to re-assign a keyboard shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+P)
that I previously used for another purpose, but have now cancelled in
the "Shortcut key" field of its shortcut file (if that's clear!).
Nothing happens when I press it now. Is there a fix?

TIA,

Sorry for the bad advice--you can't type in NONE. But you can check to see if
it's cancelled.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Are you setting it in the new shortcut target box? Go back to the old one and
see if it's still there. Make sure it says NONE in the shortcut box or type
it in. Maybe the cancel didn't work.

You wouldn't type "NONE", you'd click into that box and then press
the Backspace key. GThen be sure to click "Apply" or "OK" -- if you
close the woindow with the "X" the change won't stick.

The word is "advice"; "advise" is a noun.

I'd have contacted you privately, but ...

Thanks, but I'd checked everything before I posted. In the end, I
just gave up and used a different letter (X), which works fine. I
really did want P, which would have been the ideal mnemonic for the
job, but couldn't get it to work.

I've been using keyboard shortcuts to start programs and call up key
files for many years with Win95 (and with 3.1 before that), but I've
found XP Home to be much less straightforward in this respect.
