Keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+C) "lost", can't re-assign

I have the following problem.

I cannot (re-)assign a specific keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+C) anymore
- neither to Windows shortcuts in the start menu nor in Word or other
applications.

E.g., when I try to assign Ctrl+Alt+M to a particular macro in Word, it
is shown in the shortcut field, but pressing Ctrl+Alt+C clears the
field.

So I have to assume this keyboard shortcut is defined "elsewhere". But
where? I checked all shortcuts in the program folder for my account and
all users, but couldn't find it.

I also ran a tool called Shortcut Key Explorer that shows a system-wide
list of all shortcut keys, but Ctrl+Alt+C isn't defined.

I have no 3rd party software running in the background that might
re-assign keys, so it seems I have to look somewhere else in Windows'
bowels.

And no, the C key isn't broken, either. ;)

I'm running out of ideas here ... Can someone help?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't know you every could reassign Ctrl+Alt+C period since
it's a system command and not really a shortcut. Pressing
Ctrl+Alt+C makes a special call and thus you'd never get to
anyplace where you did have it reassigned. I think.

Bad choice to change it, IMO. Pick another sequence?

The odd thing is - this particular combo is defined and used to work in
a software I am using (WordFast, a Word-based CAT tool). I am running
the same software on a notebook, and it still works there.

But as I said, I cannot re-assign it anywhere (Windows, applications)
on my desktop PC now.

Hmm. Voodoo, or - as you say - it was never meant to be used for
keyboard shortcut. Might have to do a little more research here.

In my laptop I have assigned the combination to open the Calculator and
it works OK.
