Re-arranging icons

The icons on the desktop arrange themselves vertically by
default.
Can you arrange them horizontally instead and still get
them to line up, auto arrange etc?

Using the tools in Windows, no. There are, however, third party programs
that allow you to save customized desktop layouts. Sorry I can't recall the
names of any at the moment. Hopefully someone will chime in and supply a
name or two.
