Re-arranging Desktop Icons After Resolution Change?

B

Hi,

We have a user that occasionally connects his laptop to a projector, when he
does this, the resolution changes, and all his icons, that he so
methodically arranges, are all re-arranged and bunched up. So, he would like
to know if it's possible to save the icon positions? I have found a tool
called DTI Keeper, but before I suggest buying this, I was wondering if
there was a Windows power tool or anything that could do the same?

We're running Windows XP SP2.

Many thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,

From your post, I understand your concern is that whether you can lock
desktop Icon so that when you resize the resolution, the icon will not
change its position.

If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research that this is a designed behavior, I think we cannot
modify it through Windows side directly. I am wondering maybe some third
party application can help you on this issue.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your understanding.

Have a good day!

Regards,

Sally Qiu

Hi Sally,

Thanks for the reply.

You are correct, what the user wants to be able to do is either a) lock the
icons position, or b) a quick and easy way to restore the icon position,
after a resolution change. I have found a number of 3rd party apps, that
offer this all for around $10, (about £6 for us). I think I'll suggest one
of these to the user, as long as it doesn't compromise our security
policy/any corporate software.

Many thanks

Ben
