Re-Activation of XP

Hi folks --

I have been using XP Home Edition for almost 2 years
now. This morning I tried to log on, but I was told I
needed to go through the activation process. I went
ahead and did that so I could get access to my computer,
but I'm wondering:

What could I have done to my computer to make Windows ask
for my activation code again 2 years after the fact? I
don't recall installing anything on my computer yesterday
that would have done that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

probably going to become a normal thing. XP is a couple
years old and corruption will start to creep in and Bingo
you'll have activation problems again. Just thank MS for

I can't tell you why it think it needs to activate, but just do it. If you
have a problem, call Microsoft and they will help. The call should not take
more than 10min. As long as its the same PC you may activate as many times
as you wish.

Go to windows\system32 and copy the wpa.dbl to a floppy
and next time it asks for activation go to
windows\system32 and delete the wpa.dbl if it's there and
replace it with the copy off your floppy. Have fun.

it is always possible that something damaged the record about activation
on the machine. This would be an nice open target for virus writers.
As long as you have installed SP1 so get 3 days to go on he net and
activate again, it is no big deal - if you have to do it by phoning in
it is a modest hassle.
