So, did you upgrade your video driver? This article addresses your error. It is a
different game but it is a valid fix...

I get this error when I’m trying to install Final Fantasy: Rise of the
Zilart on my machine. (Which is running on Windows XP Home Edition SP2
btw)

in a more detailed explanation:

*I start installation*

"FINAL FANTASY XI: Rise of the Zilart is Preparing the InstallShield
Wizard, which will guide you through the program setup process. Please
Wait"

"Configuring Windows Installer..."
"Preparing to Install..."

When the bar is about 35% full it pauses, then jumps to about 65% and
give me an error in pop up window:

"Internal Failure"
"Error Number: 0x80040707"
"Description: "
[OK]

I click OK, another window

"/!\ Access is denied"
[OK]

and the installation is terminated.

I have found several possible solutions all of which dont work:

1) Messing with the registry, I checked here:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108167
which I checked and they are fine...

2) Changing the computer’s language... I had it on Japanese before...
(I dunno why <_<) and changed to English (United States)

3) "Run as..." techrepublic.com.com/5...52325.html didnt work...

4) Updating software... (I downloaded many various update software -.
- none of which seemed to do anything)

5) New CD drive? miataru.computing.net/...15922.html But I installed
Zilart a year ago with the same machine, how could it be any
different?

6) I sought help from the POL hotline in a 1 on 1 chat from a POL Rep.
which in the end went like this:

FFXI TSR Jereme: Place disc 1 into your CD-ROM, double click on my
computer, right-click on the CD-ROM drive, and click "Explore".
Click "Edit", and then "Select All". Click "Edit" again and
click "Copy".
Create a new folder on your hard drive, and paste the files from the
disc that you copied to the new folder.
Repeat this until you have ALL the files from each disc in the same
folder, then go into the folder and run
SETUP.EXE to start the installation process.
The PlayOnline Viewer is 1 disc, FINAL FANTASY XI is 3 discs, and the
expansion is 1 disk. So if you cant install FINAL FANTASY, you would
put the files from only disc 1, 2, and 3 in the same folder. If you
copy the PlayOnline disc files to a folder, you have to run setup.exe
in the subfolder called "PlayOnline" in order for setup to start.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Also check www.microsoft.com for the latest Windows
Installer.
FFXI TSR Jereme: GO to consumer.installshield.com for the latest
installshield engine.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Also check to ensure the discs are not damaged.

7) I’ve tried System Restore... but it didn’t go back far enough in
time to change a thing.

8) Compatability mode...
http://forum.installsite.net/index....445ea594940f4a&showtopic=4932&st=0&#entry9093

9) http://forums.filefront.com/showthread.php?t=132130 updating video
drivers? hmm

10) Found a similar solution like the one given by the POL Rep. only
its for a different program and need a sort of.. setup.inx file
http://knowledgebase.scansoft.com/view.asp?tnID=5267

11) http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/bugs_is6.htm (Ctrl+F, search
for "0x" to jump to the section. Work arounds: none :X

12) Running in safe mode and installing it there... I get a different
error "1607 Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime" which
I have tried other solutions for that as well, doesn’t work.

13) I’m left to a final option to reformat my Hard Drive...

Sorry for such long post but I really need help and hope to help
others who may have the same problem :X I’m gonna slap myself if it’s
something so easily solved ._.
