Is Remote Desktop running on your work PC?

Did you try it on the local work LAN, from a local PC, to make sure its working before trying from a
remote location?

Have you checked to see if RD is actually listening on TCP Port 3389 on the PC? See if RD is
actually listening on TCP Port 3389. On the target XP Pro machine go to "Start -> Run", type 'cmd'
(without the quotes). At the command line type the command 'netstat -a' (without the quotes). Look
for a line like this.

TCP <Your PC>:3389 <Your PC>:0 LISTENING

For example on my XP Pro desktop, Ashtabula, the line looks like this using the default port 3389.

TCP ashtabula:3389 ashtabula:0 LISTENING

The line should be present...If the Remote Desktop host is not running, then you will not see a line
like that and you will not be able to connect. If you run services.msc on the target machine is the
"Terminal Services" service started? Also, check the Event log to see if anything stands out when
you try to connect.

You can also run the 'telnet' test to see if you can narrow down the problem......ie. is something
blocking TCP Port 3389 for example.

Thanks Al,
Double checked everything I could think of, ports are open & remote is
"listening" and all is ok there.
VPN is still working fine.
Problem seems to be that the incoming VPN routing is not getting thru the
server to the networks.
I tried to ping my host machine from the remote and "nothing".
Guess I will have to call in someone to sift thru the server routing to open
up the internal machines.(networks) I'm not sure what to look for.

Thanks again

OK
If I understand this correctly I need to get the VPN ports on the sbs2000
server to let thru or forward to port 3389 so the machines on the inside of
the network can connect to the client on the other end of the VPN tunnel.?
If this is correct where & how do I accomplish this ?

If you can successfully establish a VPN connection to your SBS2000
machine, you no longer need to worry about forwarding port 3389 as you
can access that computer directly by using it's LAN/network address.

For the VPN, you must enable or forward TCP Port 1723 and PPTP
Passthrough/GRE/IPProtocol 47 (which you may or may not see) on your
firewall or router to point to your SBS2000 server.

Try using the internal IP addresses instead of the compute name...

Well this problem is getting to me.!!!
Ya....I have tried to ping on IP xxx.xxx & tried on name. Not there.
If I establish RDT with the server and ping network machines they are all
there.
But to just ping them thru the VPN no good. Something is not letting the
request thru !!!
Please keep the ideas comming.

Thaks

FIXED.!!
It appears that by forcing the workstations on the static loop to use the
server 10.0.x.xx IP on that sub as the default gateway, all is fixed.! RDT
over the VPN working like a bear.
I want to thank all who tried different solutions.
