RDP Connection Method

Hello. Please redirect me to a more appropriate NG if this issue is not
suitable for this one.

I am no longer able to RDP to XP client machines inside our corporate
network using the MACHINE NAME. I have recently discovered that the
MACHINE NAME will not connect me to an RDP enabled PC. I can connect
using the IP address after looking for the lease inside the DHCP
console. DHCP addresses are assigned from this Windows 2003 controller.
Note that until I just discovered this problem, the MACHINE NAME *did*
function and resolve to the correct IP connection.

Basic network infrastructure is Windows 2003 Standard Active Directory
with two (2) Backup Controllers.

What steps would someone recommend to flush/re-populate/remedy this
problem at the server or other level?

Thanks.

I would check the DNS settings first or use nslookup to check any errors?

I assume you do not mean the fully-qualified domain name.

Resolution of the NETBIOS name is by WINS, by a HOSTS file, or by a feature
in Windows to append and try domain names from a list in each computer.

There is a Microsoft tool called NBLOOKUP (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830578 ) that may help you find the problem.
