RC1 system crashes using Windows Experience Index

D

Dragon1054

When I open the GAMES folder, I am told that the computer's PERFORMANCE
INFORMATION has not been created.
I follow the link to PERFORMANCE INFORMATION AND TOOLS.
I run the application, WINDOWS EXPERIENCE INDEX, but when it gets to testing
WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER it stalls, and the PC crashes.
I have to power-cycle to get PC back.
Using Gigabyte GA-8S648 motherboard, 2.4GHz cpu, 1GB memory & NVidia 6800
graphics.
This used to work on Beta2 & Pre-RC1 installations.
Anyone else getting this problem?
I have sent bug report to MS.

Sorry if this has already been covered.....

I am having the same problem. In beta 2 I had an index score of 1 because of
an old geforce TI-4200 video card (these are not supported for forceware
80.xx drivers and above ). Got a new geforce 6200 card and after the updating
to the beta driver from nvidia, my experience index said 'unrated, new
hardware detected', so in refreshing, it got to 'assessing windows media
playback' and screen goes black, with monitor indicating 'no signal'. If I
leave it, in a few minutes the system will reboot. I have a gigabyte
GA-8SG800 with 2.53 ghz P4, 1gig of ram. Tried a beta agp chip set driver
from gigabyte, but having the same problem. I have rolled back driver and
reinstalled with same result. I am able to use aero settings since the video
card upgrade, with the old card that option was not available. Any help would
be appreciated.

I am also having the same problem. I didn't have the drivers for my video
card installed (Radeon Mobility 7500), and after I did I tried (multiple
times) to refresh my score. Each time after I click refresh, a prompt informs
me that the screen may go blank and the test may run for several minutes. I
click OK (or Continue, whatever the option may be) and the screen then
flashes blank, and then, I catch a glimpse of a BSOD, and then my system
reboots.
