RC 1 Install Problem

When installing RC1 everything is fine, up until the "completing upgrade"
section.

It than hangs in one spot for hours. I left it at this place last night and
in the morning it was at the same location.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

How are you installing?

I'm asking because I had exactly the same problem when I tried to install
RC1 over an earlier build. When I did a clean install, everything went fine.

Well, it is kinda limited info, so I will post MY experience. If you are
doing an upgrade, there are several out there that has had a bad experience
with upgrade option of Vista (However, RC 2 seemed to upgrade w/o problems).
Many have had complete success doing a clean install (I hope this progress
with RC 2 upgrade is carried on to RTM, since 90% of windows users will be
upgrading). Not with RC 1 I had to do a clean install. It would always hang
on me when I did an upgrade. Yes you will lose your original Windows
directory (Well, not lose it, but won't run like you old one meaning you
won't have the files from your old one in the new directory). But RC would
hang and I could never install it. So finally I did a clean, and it worked
great.

I think it really depends on each system on install. Seems more people are
describing problems in areas that other's are not.

If you are doing a clean install you must have a seperate partition available
with 20GB free. Clean installs have a much better success record than
upgrades. Colin
