RC-1&2 Installation Problem

I have tried to install RC-1&2 in one of my computers and have been
unsucessful in 10 attempts.
I have installed to a formated drive (EIDE), over fresh and old copies of XP
Pro to no avail. I have Put both OSs on the root of the C Drive as well as
from the ISO I burned. Have tried + and - Rs. Am using NERO.
Sometimes I get an error message that it cannot find files. Sometimes it
just reboots and wants to start all over. Sometimes it just freezes.
The only common problem is that after a install crash my HDD does not show
up in the Bios. I have to turn off power (Turn off Power Supply) and reboot
to see the HDD in Bios. I believe I saw someone else with this problem a few
days ago but have not found it again.
At this moment I have been @38% Expanding Files for an hour.
I think it could be a Bios issue but am hesitant to risk the upgrade going
bad. I have several Drive trays I swap in and out loaded with work programs.
Thanks in Advance.

Could you be more specific please about your drive(s) and partitions? Is it
an ide drive or a sata. Have you created a seperate partition for Vista with
at least 20 GB space? Did you attempt to do a 'Clean Install' or an 'Upgrade'
? How much memory have you got?

both clean install and upgrade.
Memory is 2 512 sticks

This happens when it cannot find/install a driver for one of your devices. If
you have a TV card installed, remove it and then try a clean install as Vista
has known problems with these cards. Pull other cards that are installed so
that you only have a basic machine.

Sorry about the blank post. Stuff happens.
Appreciate the suggestions.
Tried all of these ideas. The problem still exists.
Decide to try on a P4 machine that is not ready for Vista in terms of memory
or Video card. Loaded fine.
But since it is not the machine I want to run Vista on I decided to try the
hard drive in the other machine. Of course it will not boot. Tried to run
repair and was not succesfull. Changes to original configuration was the
repair diagnosis.
Tried again and shut down the P4 when I got to the set up windows screen.
Did not start and attemped repair. This time I got a diagnosis of setup
interupted or similar.
If I knew the correct place perhaps I could stop the install as it finished
the transition from DVD to HDD.
In actuality this reminds me of my Win 98 days. First time I have memorized
a Product key in a long time.
Perhaps I shall make Jambalaya and wash it down with homebrew. Forget my
sorrows.
Again thank you for your suggestions and apppreciate any other ideas you
might have.

I have found the answer to my own question.
I e-mailed MSI Tech Support and they respanded in a few hours.

"No, since this chipset on the mb is not Vista capable chipset"

First time I ever heard back from a MB Manufacter.
It is a nvidia nforce2 chipset
