RAS connection is Blind to other servers

Hi

When I dial in using RAS I can get onto the NT RAS server OK. However, no
contact is made with the DC, and so no profile is loaded from the network
(NT Domain). I can't ping other servers by name, only by IP address. I can
telnet into one of the W2k servers however.

DHCP is on a W2k server and is up and running. Wins is on an NT server (the
PDC) and two other W2k servers. I don't think its an IP address allocation
issue, as the RAS server is set to give out only one ip and only one
connection is allowed at a time.

Please help as I need to connect to other machines.

Is it worth checking on authentication, I mean because the RAS server is a
BDC, why do I get the message that a DC can't be contacted?

Setting up a RAS connection just creates a point to point connection. It
does not do a login and it does not enable broadcasts.

Can you ping machines on the LAN by IP address? If so, your RAS
connection is working. Name resolution and file sharing are a different
problem altogether.

Yes, its a name resolution problem. I found yesterday that with a lmhosts
file I can log on properly with a profile and see all the other servers.

I don't think wins is set up properly, I'm working on it.
The wins servers don't have all the other servers in their databases, and
they're not replicating properly.

Thanks
Steve
