RAS and Windows 2003 CAL licenses?

Hi

I am going to be installing a Windows 2003 server to do authentication for
remote, dial-up modem users. When they connect to the modem and
authenticate, they will basically be using an intranet to view web pages and
such. I have about 100 people that will be dialing in over 10 inbound
modems to access the web server (hosted on another machine). The only task
this server will do is accept the dial up connection, authenticate and serve
an IP address to allow the remote user to access the network.

My question is, do RAS users count against the number of CAL licenses that
are purchased and installed on the server? How many CAL licenses should I
purchase for this scenerio?

Thanks!

Yes the RAS users would count. You really only need the licenses for the
most that will be connected simultaneously though. In this case for the RAS
users 10 ( 1 for each modem ). If you allow VPN, then more licenses are
needed to accommodate the simultaneous connections.
