can some tell me of a freeware program to read .RAR files

IZArc is generally recommended.

Just another to try, ZipGenius from http://www.zipgenius.it/ . Grub the
Lite Version (or Full if you are interesting for FTPing and file
splitting (file splitter also available as an additional download).
From Tools->Options you can check the filetypes you want to associate.

free utility to do this.

ELTOOLS has a couple good programs all free, they do request you leave your
email address, but all the programs install with no key or activation.

ALZip is the one that might aid you.
