steve

my system is randomly crashing. windows fails and when i
power it back up it reads "checking one of your disks for
consistency." i thought that i may need to defrag so i
did. and the system randomly crashed again. i am
obviously not at all technical and thus completely
stumped.

Steve, does the computer freeze, restart or blue screen with error
message? Usually when you have a crash chkdsk will
attempt to repair the bad sectors on your hard drive. Your crashing
could be do to a hardware problem. Bad Memory
Power Supply or hard drive starting to get flaky.
