I keep hearing this annoying sound on my computer, and I have no idea what
it's from. I've recorded the sound and posted it hear:
http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=audio&file=2398noise.mp3

It usually don't hear it very much so I can just ignore it, but sometimes it
just starts going off like every 5 seconds, and it makes me crazy. I have
not noticed anything that might trigger it. It will go off whenever. If I'm
playing a game, on the net, or if i'm not even touching my computer.
I have also tried shutting off many background programs, and I've run
spyware and virus scans, with no luck.

If anyone recognizes that sound and can tell me what is causing it or how to
get rid of it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Scrumpleton,

Open Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices. In the Sounds tab, try setting
the sound scheme set to No Sounds.

I found it. It's the sound that Valve's Steam uses to notify when a friend
logs on. Still odd though, seeing as I only have one person on my steam
friend list and he was not logging on and off, and I turned off all
notification sounds.
So this is no longer a problem for these boards. Now that I know where it's
coming from I should be able to stop it on my own.

Thanks again,

Scrumpleton.
