random black screens

T

The Shadow

I just got a new Toshiba laptop. On my second day of use, I got a black
screen with no mouse, and no response to anything after doing something
stupid. I was trying out a game with only battery power (not plugged in).
But, the computer was still on just with a black screen, so I do not know if
it was just a battery power problem. The same basic black screen came up
randomly while I was in the middle of playing a sound file with Media Player
that I digitally recorded with a jump drive that I have (that personally
important file was deleted when I rebooted). The black screen came up a third
time while I was trying to shut down my laptop. I got a message while trying
to shut down that said that there was a certain process that would not stop.
It gave me two options: shut down, or cancel. I pushed cancel and the
computer did not do anything, so I hit Control-Alt-delete and pushed the task
manager button. That is when I got the black screen for the third time. After
each of these the system brought up a message saying that it had recovered
from something serious, and asked me if I wanted to reboot in safe-mode. At
least one of these times I was plugged in, so I do not believe that it can be
blamed on the battery. It has been a few days since I have had a problem
(these three black screens happened within two days). Everything seems to be
working fine now, but I want to know what was happening. Any assistance would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You need to contact Toshiba support and request
some troubleshooting advice. You probably have
a hardware issue.
